We believe that God wants to create a community of love here in Stanmore. It’s a tough love that’s called for in order for us to be an all-age, multi-ethnic community that helps change the ecology of our culture, bringing wholeness, healing and justice. We have over 30 nationalities as part of our congregation. We are big enough to be lively and small enough to be intimate.
We are open, curious and attentive to the world we are living in, wanting to create a culture of learning and creativity. We love living in Harrow, one of the most diverse boroughs in London. We like to stay in touch with what is happening in technology and social media, but want to build everything we do around meeting up in real life.
The 6 “P”s that make us tick:
Presence – To be fully alive is to be present: present to our own self, to others, to the world and to God.In Mark’s Gospel Jesus called the apostles that they might ‘be with him.’ (3:14)
Practice – We are changed and transformed through practices, spiritual and otherwise. Jesus sent his disciples out to ‘practise’ the things of the kingdom, ‘that he might send them out…’ (Mark 3:14)
Participate – Our life is on hold if we just sit on the sidelines and don’t get involved. Jesus invited his disciples to participate in his work, he said to them, ”You give them something to eat.’ (Mark 6:37).
Perception – Learning to see clearly through paying attention and learning awareness is at the heart of the truly lived life. Jesus called his disciples to perceptive faith, ‘Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop…’ (Mark 4:20).
Play – We want to release the creativity gifted to all of us, in a multitude of ways.
Prayer – Practise the presence of God in prayer.’ Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.’ (Mark 1:35)
